Technological facilities are evolving with its associated rapid and spontaneous changes in the global information handling and communication processes. Demand for digital information and virtual services are also increasing. These changes have placed Library and Information Professionals (LIPs) worldwide on a steady move towards the acquisition of skills necessaryfor the adoption of the technologies in their service delivery. The extent of involvement of UPs in Nigeria in this knowledge and skills acquisition pursuits, is not yet commendable, as a high percentage of our colleagues can only function effectively in a traditional library setting. Reasons for non-participation in trainings and skills acquisition programmes have been attributed to inadequate funding, including long distance to training sites (locations). It is against this background and the need to proffer solution to technology related challenges encountered by Librarians in Nigeria in their service provision that the Information Technology Section of our noble Association – Nigerian Library Association (NLA), is organizing this training which its second and third strands will hold in the Western and Northern Zones in Nigeria, respectively.
The dearth of training fund in our institutions which has been a major constraint to skills acquisition is considered by the organizers of this training; hence, the minimal cost charged for participation in the training.
